At White's Pass

We took the historic train ride from Skagway up to the pass. This is one of the routes that the Yukon prospectors took to get to the gold fields.

The Alaska Hotel

We are in Juneau for 2 days/3 nights leaving tomorrow at 5am to catch the ferry to Skagway. This photo was taken at 10:30 pm and there is still plenty of light. We are staying at the historic dive hotel, The Alaska. The associated bar is a lot of fun with live music every night.

Our campsite about 60 miles outside of Jasper.

.Nice big open meadow right in bear country. So far we have seen black bear, grizzly, big horn sheep, mountain goat, and elk. Still waiting for caribou.

Views from the Icefield Parkway

We drove from Banff heading north through the icefields parkway and stopped for a glacier tour.

Moraine Lake

This is a small lake in Banff with 10 peaks surrounding it. Not as grand as Lake Louise but intimate and startling in its own way.

Tandem ride to moraine lake

We rented a tandem bike in Louise Village and rode up to Lake Moraine and then back down to Lake Louise. Here is Sherry with the bike along the way.

Banff!

Very cold but beautiful.

At Union Station in Portland. Two hours late so far. Not a great start.

Our day in portland

The Rose Festival was going on in Portland along with the Saturday market and fleet week. Way too much to do for such a short stay. We took a 3 hour bike tour of the downtown and walked the markets. There we're a few young officers at our hotel bar and we bought them a round of drinks. One of them offered us a private tour of the ship the next morning so, at 0645 we were being piped aboard the Spruance.
The bus picks us up at noon today.
